- The federal government of Nigerian has launched a new housing
programme for civil servants in Nigeria
- The head of civil service of the federation said N30 billion has
been earmarked for the programme
- She said the programme is a strategic initiative designed as an
intervention project for massive housing deliver for civil servants

The head of civil service of the federation Winifred Oyo-Ita on
Thursday, February 2, said the programme under the Federal
Integrated Staff Housing (FISH) is a strategic initiative designed
as an intervention project for massive housing deliver for civil
servants.
Oyo-Ita who spoke at a one-day FISH workshop said the project
will also solicit for group land allocation with title deeds and
relevant documents from the Federal Capital territory
Administration and the states.
She also said the federal government has mapped out N30 billion
for the execution of the programme which will make available
affordable houses for civil servants in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the head of civil service noted that over 23,000 civil
servants across the country have been duly registered under the
programme.
“The financial commitments in this arrangements which is
currently in the region of N30 billion brought us to the realization
that we require innovative strategies in financing the FISH project
beyond the traditional sources like, the Federal government Staff
Housing Loans Board, FGSHLB and the Federal Mortgage Bank of
Nigeria, FMBN,” Oyo-Ita said.
The FGBN grant housing loans to public servants at three percent
and FMBN grant mortgage at six percent interest rate through
primary mortgage institutions to civil servants and other Nigerians
who are contributors to the National Housing Funds,” she said.
Oyo-Ita said the FISH programme is focused on reducing all
bottlenecks encountered by citizens while securing lands for good
projects.
“Most importantly, to eliminate middlemen and land speculations
from the housing value-chain,” she said.
